Tips - New security options have been added

New security for tip adjustments and transfers

New security options have been added to restrict employees from illegitimately transferring or adding tips to/for themselves. Shortcuts will check permissions upon an employee clicking ‘Finish Sale’ for transactions that only include tips.

Allow tip value adjustments: Turn this option OFF for security levels where you want to enforce there is always an associated service or retail transaction alongside tips, where the net amount is not zero. This will ensure those employees are not adding their own tips or removing tips from other employees.

Authorized users can continue to adjust tips by adding one or more negative tip lines for employee(s) and one or more balancing positive tip lines for employee(s).

However, there are now security checks in place to disallow a tip being processed unless there is also another revenue earning item in that same sale. Users without permission to “Allow tip value adjustments” will see a security message when they try to end the sale if it is a tip-only sale where the total doesn’t net to $0.

Allow employee tip transfers: Turn this option OFF for security levels where you want to stop users transferring tips to 1 or more employees, even when the net amount is zero.

Transferring tips to other employees can be initiated by authorized users either by refunding the original tip or clicking the ‘Tip’ button in POS and entering a negative amount sale line. The user would then add a second (or more) tip line to reassign the equivalent positive amount to another employee.

Split tip automatically based on service value

(This section applies to business who use the integrated payment terminal feature only)

A new option “Spilt tip by service value” has been added to the credit card payment tip assignment dialog, offering a simple way to automatically allocate tips to employees (servicing employees only) based on the value of services they performed.

Example: Employee Brad performed a color for $110, and Sarah did the cut for $60.Therefore, Brad’s portion of the total service amount was 65%, and Sarah’s was 35%.

The guest gave a 20% tip, coming to a total of $34. Choosing the new option “Split tip by service value” would apportion $22.10 to Brad (65% of $34), and $11.90 (35% of $34) to Sarah.

The following wording updates make it simpler to select the intended option:

  • “Split tip evenly between service employees” has replaced “Split tip evenly”
  • “Manually allocate tips” has replaced “Select employees for tip allocation”

Reassigning tips

(This section applies to business who use the integrated payment terminal feature only)

A “Reassign tips” option has been added to the credit card confirmation dialog. This new option allows employees to bring up the tip splitting options again to amend the distribution of tips between employees.
