How to Update and Upgrade Shortcuts
This guide provides a step-by-step process for updating and upgrading Shortcuts, ensuring you have access to the latest features and fixes. Follow these recommendations to maintain optimal performance and keep your systems up to date.
Preparation: Back Up Your Shortcuts Data
Before starting the update process, back up your Shortcuts data to prevent any loss of information.
Accessing the Update Manager
- Click the arrow on the right-hand side of your taskbar to show more icons.
- Right-click on Shortcuts Point of Sale and select Update Manager.
- In the Update Manager, click on Advanced Settings and enter your Shortcuts PIN.
Choosing Your Update Preferences
There are three update options available:
- Manual Check for Updates: Shortcuts will notify you of updates, but you'll need to download and install them manually.
- Automatic Download with Manual Installation: Updates are downloaded automatically, but you decide when to install them (Recommended).
- No Notifications: Disable update notifications entirely.
Additional Settings
- Set specific times for Shortcuts to check for updates, download updates, or perform installations.
- Enable the option for automatic updates across all terminals after updating the server computer.
Updating Shortcuts
- Save your preferences by pressing OK.
- To manually check for updates, press Check Now.
- If an update is available:
- Click Download Now.
- Once the download is complete, press Install.
During Installation
- Notifications will appear in the bottom-right corner, showing time remaining for the installation to start.
- You can continue using other programs during the installation, except Shortcuts.
Post-Installation
- Verify the update by checking the version number.
- For multiple terminals, use the Terminal Rollout feature to update Shortcuts on all connected systems.
Handling Automatic Updates
If you’ve opted for automatic downloads:
- You’ll receive a notification when an update is ready.
- Click on the notification to open the New Updates Window.
- Review the release notes for detailed information on the update.
- Choose to:
- Install immediately.
- Be reminded later.
- Skip installation.
If installing immediately, you’ll have a 3-minute countdown to wrap up your work before the installation begins.
