Adding a New Service Category
Learn how to add a new service category in Shortcuts Fusion
Services are divided into categories for ease of selection. There are nine default service categories along with a Top 30 category that allows you to list your 30 most popular services for fast selection. The default categories are named Category 1 to Category 9. These names will need to be edited to reflect your services setup. For example, a hair business may have categories for Cuts, Bleaches and Blowdrys, while a beauty business may have categories for Facials, Massage and Waxing. You can also add additional categories if required. Any unused categories can be deleted.
Adding a New Category
Select Setup > Service
- Click to select Business at the top of the screen.
- Click the New button. A new entry will appear at the bottom of the category list and the Name field will be highlighted.
- Enter the name for the new category.
- Select on Rpts Categ
- Enter the name to reflect the service category > press done to save
Editing a Category Name
1. Click to select the relevant category name, and then click again to edit the selected category
name. The field will change colour and the text will be highlighted.
2. Enter the name for the new category
Deleting a Category
1. Click to select the category you want to delete.
2. Click the Delete button.
You can only delete a service category if there are no services contained within
Category Pictures
The default category pictures for services can be changed. Using custom pictures makes Shortcuts
easier to use (visually) when selecting services at the Point of Sale and in the Appointment Book.
Changing Category Pictures
1. Click to select the category you want to add a picture to.
2. Click and hold (or right-click) until the popup menu appears. Scroll to select the New Picture
option. The Open window will appear.
3. Search for and select the new picture’s .bmp file.
4. Click the Open button. The Services screen will reappear displaying the new picture for the
service category.
The pictures must be saved as a .bmp file. A service category picture must be 80
pixels (dots) wide by 80 pixels (dots) high and have 256 colours.
Reports Categories
Report categories can be defined in Shortcuts to identify what service blocks count towards for
reporting and marketing purposes. Clicking the Rpts Categ. button will open the Service Reports
Category Setup window. When setting up services (see “Setting up a New Service” on page 175),
Shortcuts allows you to specify which service reports category each service block counts towards.
Initially the points categories are named Rpts1 to Rpts10 (max. 10 Reports Categories). These
names will need to be edited to reflect your services setup.
Below is an example of the Employee Performance Summary report. Here you can see the reports
categories.
Editing a Reports Category Name
1. Click the Rpts Categ. button. The Service Reports Category Setup window will appear.
2. Click to select the reports category you want to change. The Change Category Name window
will appear.
3. Using the keyboard, type in a name for the new reports category (e.g. Cuts, Consult, Nails).
Reports category names can be up to 19 characters long, although it is best to keep them
short (around 6 characters).
4. Click the Done button. The new reports category name will now appear in the Service Reports
Category setup window.
5. Click the Done button again to return to the Service screen
